Caitriona Leavey - Clondalkin Yoga
Caitriona Leavey teaches a variety of yoga classes at Aras Chronain in the heart of Clondalkin Village. I teach Hatha Yoga classes along with Pregnancy and Mum and Baby Yoga.
I believe that yoga is accessible to all. With over 1,000 training hours completed, I am a qualified 500 Yoga Alliance Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist and Somatic Movement Coach. My classes include a blend of Yoga postures, somatic movements, breathing practices, meditation and relaxation.
Caitriona will teaching Somatic Yoga at the Got Your Back Main Event 10.15 - 11.15am
Somatic Yoga
"Somatics Yoga is not a different style of yoga but rather a movement therapy, a way of re-educating the way our brain senses and moves the muscles.
Movements are performed slowly, focusing on quality rather than quantity. Working in this way allows the body and more importantly the human nervous system which controls our posture and movement, to learn new ways of moving.
Thomas Hanna (Founder of Somatic Movement Education) says “If you can sense it and feel it, you can change it.”. In order to regain stability and mobility, you must be able to sense, feel, and control yourself fully from within. Somatic Exercises can change how we live our lives, and how responsible we should be in taking care of our total being." Thomas Hanna.
The brain-to-muscle connection acts like a simple feedback loop: sensory (feeling) information goes into the brain and motor (movement) messages go out to the muscles. By sensing and moving we can reconnect the brain to the muscles, resetting muscle length, function and control".
